Stop endangered birds from being drugged, shoved into water bottles, and illegally traded!

Ruthless smugglers cram threatened parrots into water bottles to pass through customs!!

The world was surprised when pictures of threatened cockatoos in Indonesia, stuffed into plastic bottles so they could be shipped abroad, came to light. We want your help to stop Indonesia’s illicit animal trade and associated wildlife violation before it's too late.

Indonesian police newly found dozens of threatened cockatoos sedated and squeezed into water bottles. The scarce animals -- there're only 7,000 left on the planet-- were discovered either dead or hardly alive. Sadly, this terrible scene isn't unusual in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s law preserving threatened animals is 25 years old and outdated. The criminals accountable for the illicit animal trade are seldom caught. If they're arrested, they suffer a light punishment. This doesn't give a reason for them to stop.

Law enforcement requires the means to catch the animal smugglers and more crucially the poachers, and then the capacity to hand down severer punishments. Join us in speaking for the wordless animals being driven to extinction -- tell the Indonesian government we can not bear to wait any longer to renew the law protecting threatened species.

Even though the cockatoos were found before they arrived at their destination, it was too late for 11 of the parrots. Each death leads the bird nearer to extinction. Like in early cases, the smugglers responsible will soon be back on the streets and will go back to their criminal activities.

Unless Indonesia's law is replaced, and its law enforcement made efficiently, there's no reason for these criminals to stop and more parrots will be smuggled in horrifying forms and end up dying. It'll take pressure from the world community to get countries like Indonesia to take action and make sure these valuable animals and other endangered species are actually protected.

No more #BottledCockatoos!
