Poncho, an intelligent 30-year-old double yellow headed amazon parrot, applies one of his feathers to better scratch his head! He wasn't trained to do this, he mastered it alone! He'll utilize other objects apart from feathers for the same end, like straws, pencils, toys, etc. Of course, my fingers are his preferred tool for scratching those difficult to reach areas, but I'm not really available 24 hours/day, so he's learned to improvise :)
